The Mid-Year Financial Checkup

Don’t ignore it; look forward to the chance to get things in order.

Here’s the scenario … you get a card in the mail, one of those little reminders that tells you it’s time for your mid-year financial checkup. Your reaction: I’ll take care of that later. Here’s why you should look forward to it.

Because things change.  Between the recession, possible job losses, poor investment returns and everything else that might be going on in your life, there isn’t a better time to check up on your finances than now. That way if you do spot a problem you’ll hopefully catch it early enough that making changes isn’t too difficult

Measure your progress. It just makes sense to see how you’re doing. If you are not moving forward, or if you are assuming too much risk as a result of your current portfolio or financial decisions, it’s time for change. The mid-year review is an opportunity to think clearly about your financial situation.

A chance to increase your pay. With the changes brought about by the 2009 stimulus plan, you may be withholding more taxes than you need to.  Review your taxes held year-to-date and make changes to your W-4 as needed.

Why not finish the year right? June is not only the middle of the year, but an ideal time to take a look under the hood financially.
